The house passed inspection this morning and Huntsville Utilities came out this afternoon and hooked up water and electricity.

Our boys from Texas will be here this weekend so I will put them to work moving our furniture in...'not looking forward to having the place cluttered up with boxes...

Laura Leigh and Jason are going to be in charge of hanging the blinds for us...white, wooden blinds...

The cooktop will be installed in this island after the appliances (black) are delivered ...
Pay no attention to that green wall in the background....mistake...it will be painted another color...probably the same brown as the other walls or a lighter (or darker?) shade of it

Getting Close...two more weeks (maybe)

Until this last week most of Feb. was too wet and muddy for work to be done.
The painters started inside on Monday and finished today.
Yesterday the septic tank location was dug, placed, approved and covered up!
Also, the ditch was dug to lay the power and water lines...all the way up the side of Barb's yard to the street.
Next week the electricial lights will be installed and following that, the kitchen cabinets and floors will be laid.
They've got to finish the porch (railing and screen) and build the handicap ramp.

Monday Barb and I chose the plumbing fixtures...today we decided on the floors...
She preferred hardwood, as shown below on left...Bob and I prefered the wider plank, less textured ? selection on the right....it is not hardwood but its what she has in her shop and looks very pretty, wares well and is 50cents a sq.ft. cheaper than real wood...
The carpet shown is  what we're going to use in the bedroom.

This is the third day of work on the siding...

Progress Report...

'Finally got a break from the bad weather .... a bit more work completed ...plumbing and electrical roughed in, roofing, windows and outside doors...If there are no delays in materials should be another 4 to 6 weeks before completion. We're waiting for another bid on cabinets...the first one was way over budget.

Jan. 4th. 2010...
The plumbers have been working here  yesterday and today ....the house was treated with termit prevention and the carpenters are working on the side porch. Barbara has ordered the walk-in handicap shower, when it arrives they can finish framing out the inside walls....the windows are due to arrive Wednesday...We are getting estimates for the cabinets and trying to decide on which ones we want...decisions, decisions, decisions...
Do we want the island stained or painted?...red?, black? white?...the appliaces are going to be black. We want lightly stained cabinets and  dark countertops...I think :) Maybe we should just paint the cabinets white ??? any suggestions? We don't want a contemporary look (such as black & white)..so we'll probably go with a light stain...We haven't decided what color the walls will be either...

This is the style the cabinet doors will be..but not this dark...

here are three different stains and countertops we are thinking about...I think we're leaning toward the lightest..

They've covered all the windows with insulation ???

Yeserday (Dec. 30th.) they started adding the porch

Dec. 25th  2009

Dec. 23rd

Dec. 22nd. Bobs first visit to the site

Dec. 21st. the flooring is down

Dec. 17th...laying the blocks

Dec. 7th..preparing the footing

Nov. 18th...clearing out some trees..

The original floor plan...we will have the front porch all the way across..and no back porch..Mike added 2 feet to the width and length of this plan.
I believe it is going to be 32.6' x 30'..also going to turn the island in the kitchen and make it a bit longer.
some other changes as well..where the washer/dryer closet is will be open with a built in computer desk.
